Healing the Gerasene Demoniac
Healing the Gerasene Demoniac

In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Glory to Jesus Christ!

I love to ask the question, “Do you believe it is possible to love pigs more than Jesus Christ?” The answer is, of course not. Why do you ask such a foolish question?  Well, I often wonder why those people, in today Gospel, would ask Jesus Christ to leave their town just after He cast out a legion of demons into a herd of swine. They have seen His love of mankind by the way He healed the lunatics, but at what cost? You can’t have it both ways. Does our culture set before us subliminal messages to set our actions throughout our lifetime?  I think so.  When a couple has a newborn, they spend time playing with the infant by lightly pinching the toes and saying, this little piggy went to the market, and this little piggy stayed home, and so on….Wow!  Then they tell the baby a story about the three little pigs and the big bad wolf, huffing and puffing and blowing the first two houses down but the brick house withstood the mighty wind, and so on….As the child grows older here comes Porky pig and after that, a story about Babe from Charlotte’s Web fame. As this child grows up he eats Bacon & eggs or Sausage and waffles for breakfast, Ham & cheese between two slices of bread for lunch and Pigs in a blanket for supper. OH BOY! That tastes so good. Then on the very first day of the year, this family enjoys a large pot of Pork roast, ribs, and /or kolbassi with sauerkraut to welcome in the New Year. Now let us not forget about the big event on TV. The football games come on after the parades. Those bowl games are played with a football made with Pigskin. Yes all day and long into the night, watching a pigskin ball going up and down the field. Oh, don’t say you‘ve never done it. If you’re in America there’s no maybe about it. Did you ever think about going to church on that day? Did you ever go?

Again, do you love pigs more than Jesus Christ? Think it over. We know by your lifestyle that pigtails and piggy banks are a large part of our modern day life. Let’s make sure that we keep all these worldly things “on the back burner” and put the holy things of God first as we go through life.

GLORY   FOREVER!
