Statement of the Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA

Beloved Clergy, Parishioners, and People of Good Will,

In the face of the devastating fires that continue to rage through the neighborhoods of the Los Angeles metropolitan area, we, the Council of Bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, reach out to you with an urgent and heartfelt plea for prayer and support. The destruction caused by these fires has touched the lives of countless individuals and communities, leaving many displaced and in need of our spiritual and material assistance.

Our prayers are especially directed toward the clergy, parishioners, and their families of our two Ukrainian Orthodox parish communities in Los Angeles: St. Vladimir Ukrainian Orthodox Pro-Cathedral, under the spiritual care of Very Rev. Fr. Vasile Sauciur, and St. Andrew Ukrainian Orthodox Parish, under the spiritual care of Rev. Fr. Myroslav Mykytyuk. We have learned of significant losses of personal property and homes among several of our parishioners. Yet, by God’s mercy, we give thanks that all are safe and unharmed.

We ask all clergy, faithful parishioners, and people of good will to fervently remember in their prayers the suffering people of Los Angeles, especially our Ukrainian Orthodox parish communities and their pastors, who continue to provide spiritual guidance and comfort in these difficult times. Let us also intercede for all those who have lost homes, livelihoods, and a sense of safety.

As a Church, we turn our prayers to the holy intercessors, especially the patron saints of firefighters, such as St. Florian for those who risk their lives in the service of others. May God grant strength, protection, and wisdom to the brave men and women working tirelessly to combat the fires and protect lives and property.

We implore the intercessions of the Most Holy Theotokos, the Birth-Giver of God, who is our constant protector in times of distress, and the Holy Archangel Michael, the defender of God’s people, along with all the heavenly hosts. May they guard the people of Los Angeles, especially those affected by the fires, and grant peace and safety to all.

A Prayer for Divine Protection

O Lord God Almighty, You who calm the raging seas and bring peace to stormy skies, we humbly beseech You to stretch forth Your hand and protect the people of Los Angeles and all those affected by these devastating fires. Comfort those who have suffered loss, strengthen the hands of the firefighters and first responders, and inspire us all to be instruments of Your mercy and care. We seek the intercessions of Your Most Holy Mother, the Birth-Giver of God, and of the Holy Archangel Michael, that they may surround these communities with their heavenly protection. May Your divine grace bring an end to these fires and restore peace to all who are suffering. For You are the God of mercy, salvation, and hope, and to You we ascribe glory, now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

May the Lord, through the prayers of the Most Holy Theotokos, St. Florian, the Holy Archangel Michael, and all the saints, bring comfort, protection, and healing to the people of Los Angeles, and may our Ukrainian Orthodox communities remain steadfast in faith, hope, and love.

Улюблене духовенство, парафіяни та люди доброї волі,

Перед обличчям нищівних пожеж, які продовжують вирувати в околицях Лос-Анджелеса, ми, Собор Єпископів Української Православної Церкви США, звертаємося до вас із наполегливим і щирим благанням про молитву та підтримку. Руйнування, викликані цими пожежами, торкнулися життів незліченних людей і громад, залишивши багатьох переміщених осіб і потребуючи нашої духовної та матеріальної допомоги.

Наші молитви особливо спрямовані до духовенства, парафіян та їхніх родин наших двох українських православних парафіяльних громад у Лос-Анджелесі: Українського Православного Прокатедрального собору св. Володимира, під духовною опікою преподобного о. Василя Савчура та Української Православної Парафії св. Андрія, під духовною опікою о. Мирослава Микитюка. Ми дізналися про значні втрати особистого майна та будинків серед кількох наших парафіян. Проте, з Божого милосердя, ми дякуємо, що всі здорові і неушкоджені.

Просимо все духовенство, вірних парафіян і людей доброї волі гаряче згадувати у своїх молитвах про стражденних жителів Лос-Анджелеса, особливо про наші українські православні парафіяльні громади та їхніх духовних отців, які продовжують надавати духовний провід і розраду в ці важкі часи. Молимось також за всіх тих, хто втратив дім, засоби до існування та почуття безпеки.

Як Церква, ми звертаємося в молитвах до святих заступників, особливо до святих покровителів пожежників, таких як святий Флоріан за тих, хто ризикує своїм життям у служінні іншим. Дай Боже сили, захисту та мудрості відважним чоловікам і жінкам, які невтомно працюють над боротьбою з пожежами та захистом життя та майна.

Благаємо заступництва Пресвятої Богородиці, яка є нашою постійною заступницею в часи лихоліття, і святого Архистратига Михаїла, захисника народу Божого разом з усім небесним воїнством. Нехай вони охороняють людей Лос-Анджелеса, особливо тих, хто постраждав від пожеж, і дарують мир і безпеку всім.

Молитва про Божий захист

О Господи Боже Всемогутній, Ти, що втихомирюєш бурхливе море і приносиш мир у штормове небо, ми смиренно благаємо Тебе простягнути Свою руку й захистити людей Лос-Анджелеса та всіх, хто постраждав від цих руйнівних пожеж. Подай спокій тим, хто зазнав втрат, зміцни руки пожежників і рятувальників і надихни усіх нас бути знаряддям Твого милосердя й турботи. Просимо заступництва Пресвятої Богородиці і Святого Архистратига Михаїла, щоб вони оточили ці громади своєю небесною опікою. Нехай  божественна благодать покладе край цим пожежам і відновить мир для всіх, хто страждає. Бо Ти єси Бог милості, спасіння і надії, і Тобі славу возсилаємо нині, і повсякчас, і на віки вічні. Амінь.

Нехай Господь молитвами Пресвятої Богородиці, святого Флоріана, святого Архистратига Михаїла та всіх святих принесе розраду, захист і зцілення жителям Лос-Анджелеса, а наші українські православні громади залишаться непохитними у вірі, надії і любові.
